Teaching based on personalized needs and unique study goals

About Me

Hello! My name is Elaine and I have been tutoring math and science since 2018. After completing my M.Sc in 2021, I decided to go into teaching full time. I find it extremely rewarding to empower students of all ages and grade levels to be more confident learners. I aim to help students develop their critical thinking skills and find joy in the learning process. It is my belief that anyone can achieve their goals with the right teaching influence and support.

My Teaching Approach

To me, the most important aspect of learning a new concept is to truly understand it. Especially in the sciences and mathematics, each lesson is a building block to improve the overall knowledge in a particular course. My primary approach when teaching is to introduce different perspectives that may not be taught in the classroom. Each student has a unique way of viewing the world and I spend extra time to ensure that I am teaching each lesson in a way that they will fully appreciate.

In my private tutoring lessons, I primarily revisit difficult concepts to ensure that the student has a proper grasp of the lesson, in addition to helping with school homework. Additionally, I aim to engage the student's curiosity and desire to learn new things. I am encouraging and accommodating, and I am well aware of the commonplace issue of burnout from school and online learning. I find new and exciting ways to engage the student's critical thinking skills and I do my best to make difficult or boring subjects fun!

New Course Offering: Think Like a Scientist!

Gain a new perspective of scientific discoveries throughout the ages. Starting mid-September, seats are filling up fast. Please contact me if you would like more information or if you are interested in signing up.

This course will focus on teaching critical thinking skills and the scientific method to improve understanding of how the world around us works. This will provide an excellent starting point for curious students that want to get a better idea of how scientific discoveries are made and get hands-on experience with engineering, biology, chemistry, and physics. Students will work both in groups and independently to evaluate evidence, build their research skills, and develop their scientific thinking skills. Some of the lessons we will be covering are how ancient civilizations tracked astronomical events, Newton’s laws of gravity and motion, theories on how life started on Earth, and Darwin’s theory of evolution.

This course is being offered for students in grades 5-7. The duration will be 8 weeks, with in-person classes and will start in mid-September (exact date and pricing to be determined).
